Magnitude-5.2 aftershock rocks Bicol region

MANILA, Philippines - A 5.2-magnitude aftershock rocked the Bicol region on Monday morning, three days after a magnitude-5.8 quake hit the area Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. The 5.2-magnitude quake occurred at 4:46 a.m., with the epicenter traced at 34 kilometers northeast of Sorsogon. The quake, however, was not felt in the region as there was only a reported Intensity II level at Lignon Hill in Legazpi City; Intensity III in Sorsogon City; and Intensity IV in Virac, Catanduanes. The aftershock came in the heels of another aftershock, recorded to be 4.0-magnitude, that rocked the same region on Sunday night. The Phivolcs said the quake hit the area at 10:41 p.m, with the epicenter tracked 31 kilometers northeast of Sorsogon. Only an Intensity II level was reported in Sorsogon. Last Friday, a "moderately strong" earthquake rocked parts of Bicol region Friday night, with state seismologists warning of "possible" damage and aftershocks. Phivolcs director Renato Solidum Jr said the quake was recorded at 6:35 p.m. and was felt in Albay, Sorsogon and Catanduanes provinces in Bicol; and in the Visayas. - Johanna Camille Sisante, GMANews.TV
