Nina damage to Cordillera aggie products at P468,000


BAGUIO CITY, Philippines - Approximately P119,000 worth of agricultural crops and P349,000 in fisheries were destroyed in Benguet, Mountain Province, and Apayao as a result of the devastation wrought by Typhoon Nina in the Cordillera earlier this week. This was aside from 57 houses totally destroyed in Baguio City and Benguet, and the same number of houses partially damaged in Baguio, Benguet and Apayao due to landslides and flooding in the past days. Discuss views with other readers According to the Cordillera Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (CRDCC), 1,030 individuals belonging to 205 families were adversely affected by the tropical storm when it hit northern Luzon last September 22 and 23. The CRDCC reported that of the 57 houses damaged, 51 were due to landslides in Loacan, Itogon, Benguet; two were also destroyed by landslides in Guisad Surong, Baguio City; another two were washed out by floods in Balili, La Trinidad, Benguet; and one each were damaged by landslides in Kesbeng, Poblacion, La Trinidad, Benguet and in Dominican Extension, Baguio City. Of those destroyed, 52 were washed out by floods in Calanasan, Apayao; one each were also hit by floods in Balili, Cruz and Lubas, all in La Trinidad, Benguet; and one each were hit by landslides in Kesbeng, Poblacion, La Trinidad, Benguet and in Guisad Surong, Baguio City. In Mt. Province alone, an estimated P84,000 of agricultural crops was blown away by strong winds in barangays Chupac, Lunas, Ogo-og and Kaleo in the town of Barlig; P25,000 either got eroded, flooded or rotted away in Barangay Sinto in the municipality of Bauko; while another P10,000 either washed away or eroded in Namatec, Sabangan. Regarding damage to fisheries, in Apayao alone, approximately P141,000 was damaged by overflowing in the barangays of Imelda, Swan and Alem in the town of Pudtol; P63,000 was flooded in the barangays of Malayugan, Baluyan, Sta. Maria, San Jose, Malubibit, Tamalunog, Lower Atoc and Bagutong in the municipality of Flora; P56,000 was also flooded in barangays Panay, San Antonio, Marcela and Malekeg in the town of Sta. Marcela; while another P48,000 was also flooded in the barangays of Capagaypayan, San Sebastian, Tumog, San Isidro, San Francisco, Zumigui and Lappa in the municipality of Luna. As to the number of persons adversely affected by the typhoon, 460 individuals belonging to 92 families were reported in Loacan, Itogon, Benguet; 373 members of 76 families were flooded out in City Camp Proper, Baguio City; 85 members of 17 families were hit by landslides in Antamok Goldfield, Itogon, Benguet; 33 members of six families were recorded in Sabayan, Calanasan, Apayao; 24 members of four families were affected inn Poblacion, Calanasan, Apayao; 20 members of three families were flooded out in Balili, La Trinidad, Benguet; another 12 members of two families were also flooded out in Kesbeng, Poblacion, La Trinidad, Benguet. - Sun.Star Baguio
