‘Golden Boy’ hopes Hatton uses advice to his advantage
MANILA, Philippines – There’s no better man to advice Ricky Hatton against Manny Pacquiao than his own promoter – Oscar De La Hoya. The Golden Boy said he already gave the 30-year old Hatton some pointers on how to exactly deal with the man who, just four months ago, dealt him the most severe beating in his colorful boxing career. “I’ve already been there with Manny Pacquiao. I’ve experienced his speed, I’ve experienced his punches," he admitted to Manila-based sportswriters. “So obviously, the advice that I’ve given him, I’m sure he’s gonna use." Pacquiao bludgeoned De La Hoya to a pulp, forcing his corner to surrender the white towel just before the ninth round of their intriguing welterweight showdown last December. The loss eventually paved the way for the boxing superstar to hang up his gloves. While he roots for a Hatton win (“I’m gonna go with my guy"), the former Olympic gold medalist from East Los Angeles stressed a victory would not exactly mean a payback for him. “No, it’s not revenge," he said. “Ricky Hatton is gonna face him for the first time. So like I said, this is nothing personal." De La Hoya wishes both fighters good luck, saying they are “going to do their job, so may the best man wins." The Golden Boy said he doesn’t see the fight going the distance. “Not early, but maybe late. I know who, but it’s not going the distance." – GMANews.TV
