Excelroof eyes share of PBL lead

Excelroof shoots for a third straight win and a share of the lead when it battles dangerous AddMix Tuesday in the 2010 PBL PG Flex-Erase Placenta Cup at the Yneres Sports Arena in Pasig. The 25ers and the Transformers clash at 4 p.m. with the former out to score a follow-up to their smashing 83-59 win over Agri-FCA last week.

A victory by 25ers will enable them to tie idle Cossack Blue for the lead. The Cossack Spirits streaked to their third straight win last Saturday by downing sister team Cobra Energy Drink in overtime, 91-90. Excelroof will be returning after a 10-day break, having last seen action on February 20 yet. But despite the layoff, the 25ers are in their tip-top shape, especially their core players from NCAA champion San Sebastian Stags, who ruled the CHED National Games that ended Sunday. Jimbo Aquino, who was awarded the Most Valuable Player plum in the CHED Games, is expected to lead the team of coach Renato Agustin alongside Calvin Abueva, Ronald Pascual, John Raymundo and Ian Sangalang. Their opponents, AddMix, will try to rebound from an 80-76 loss to Ascof Lagundi. The Transformers of coach Leo Austria will lean on their veterans like Lisztian Amparado and Jan Colina, but they must also get support from the bench to be able to match the firepower of their streaking rival.

Cellar dwellers Fern-C (0-3) and Agri-FCA (0-2), meanwhile, seek to rejuvenate their sagging campaigns when they take on each other at 2 p.m. NCAA MVP John Wilson of Fern-C has been the league’s most prolific scorer so far with an average of 29.3 points. Wilson also is the league’s first player in years to score 30 points in back-to-back contests, pumping in 30 and 32 points in a losing effort to AddMix and Pharex B Complex, respectively. He fired 26 in his debut for his new team, a setback to Cossack Blue. But he has to gain more support from his team as the Cultivators themselves are expected to go all out to snap their own two-game skid. To date, the team of Toto Dojillo has been the whipping boys of the league as it dropped its two outings by an average of 22 points. James Sena anchors Agri-FCA but other veterans like Marc Cagoco and Christian Luanzon must rediscover their old deadly selves to make the team a contender. – GMANews.Tv
