Angelo Reyes' alma mater pays tribute to late general

The public high school where the late Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes graduated as valedictorian in 1960 paid tribute to the late general on Friday. Radio dzBB reported that the students and teachers at the Ramon Magsaysay (Cubao) High School suspended classes in the morning to pay their respects to Reyes. "We love you, we miss you - Ramon Magsaysay (Cubao) High School," read a sign on the school's gate, the report said. Students and officials of the school held white banners to welcome the convoy bearing the remains of Reyes, who died last Tuesday. A band played music as the vehicle bearing Reyes' coffin entered the school premises. The coffin was brought to a stage in the school's covered court. "General Angelo Reyes an outstanding alumnus (and) benefactor in all things big and small," read a message placed near the stage. The report added the warm gesture moved Reyes' widow and children to tears. Earlier, Reyes' remains were brought out of the Ascension Columbarium in Quezon City, to be brought to AFP headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City. Reyes shot himself in front of his mother's grave at a memorial park in Marikina City on Tuesday. He was rushed to a Quezon City hospital but doctors failed to revive him. Tuesday's incident came shortly after former Armed Forces of the Philippines budget officer retired Lt. Col. George Rabusa accused Reyes of allegedly receiving P50 million in "pabaon" (send-off money) when he retired from the military. – VVP, GMA News
