‘Juaning’ strands 1,600; roads in CAR, C. Luzon impassable

At least 1,600 passengers were stranded while several major roads in Cordillera and Central Luzon were rendered impassable due to rains and floods brought by Tropical Storm Juaning (Hock-Ten). The Philippine Coast Guard said the 1,600 included 1,037 in Southern Luzon; 541 in Bicol; and 22 in Aparri in Northern Luzon. In its noon update, the Coast Guard also said Juaning also stranded 10 trucks, 12 cars, seven buses, 188 rolling cargos, 14 vessels, and 15 motor bancas.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's (NDRRMC) 1 p.m. update said the roads rendered impassable by Juaning included:

Central Luzon: Baler-Casiguran Road in Aurora province at Km. 345+500 (Montay River Crossing), due to two- to three-meter flooding; at Km. 349+500 to Km. 350+500 in Brgy. Marikit, Casiguran due to two- to 2.5-meter flooding and at Km. 278+280 (Brgy. Dianed Dipaculao due to landslide, all caused by continuous rain.

Cordillera: Roads along the Mt. Province-Ilocos Sur Road via Tue at Km. 391+651 (Calacaban Bridge), due to rotten limber components and stolen transom clamps and along the Baguio-Bontoc Road at Km.847+400 Meanwhile, in Bicol, the NDRRMC said the Nabua-Balatan Road Section in Camarines Sur is not passable due to a road cut. In Albay, one lane of Culiat Draga Road is passable. The NDRRMC also said the death toll rose to 20, with 31 injured and nine still missing. — KBK, GMA News
