Delos Reyes tapped to reclaim SEA Games baseball gold
Edgar Delos Reyes, who steered the Philippines to the baseball gold in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games, has been appointed by the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) to duplicate his feat this year in Indonesia. Delos Reyes was the PABA ad-hoc committee's top choice for the top coaching post after screening all six candidates. He bested five other candidates including Jhoel Palanog of three-time Baseball Philippines champion Manila Sharks, the Cebu Dolphins' Isaac Bacarisas, Jeffrey Santiago of the Alabang Tigers, the Dumaguete Uni-bikers' Ricardo Jimenez and former national team coach Wilfredo Hidalgo. Delos Reyes was responsible for the Philippines' gold medal win in the 23rd Manila SEA Games but the Nationals failed to defend it against Thailand in the 2007 edition in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Delos Reyes' appointment is part of the ad-hoc committee's task of forming the national team bound for the 2011 SEA Games in Indonesia. Delos Reyes has vast experience in coaching including abroad where he mentored national pitcher Jon Jon Robles and Arrows Astrava in the Czech Republic Baseball League in 2007. - Reuben Terrado/JVP, GMA News
