UST's Abdul likely to miss game against NU
University of Santo Tomas (UST) big man Karim Abdul is likely to miss the Growling Tigers' final game against National University on Sunday after the rookie from Cameroon recorded his second unsportsmanlike foul of the season. Abdul incurred the infraction in UST’s 77-73 win over Far Eastern University Thursday after he elbowed the Tamaraws' John Foronda in the face with still 81 seconds left in the fourth period. UAAP basketball commissioner Andy Jao said that Abdul will be suspended based on the league's house rules although the technical committee will make a final decision on Saturday. "We have to abide by the rules and based on the rules, he will be suspended," Jao said. “I think the referees made the right call." Abdul committed his first unsportsmanlike foul in UST’s 81-71 loss to Adamson in the first round. UST coach Pido Jarencio said that he hopes that the call will be overturned as the Tigers try to stay in contention for the number two spot. "I'm not complaining about the call but my concern is that it's unfair to him (Abdul). They should also look at how physical they were against him. I hope that they can take a look at it and see if they can overturn the call," said Jarencio. Abdul has been a vital cog to the Tigers' campaign this season where he logged in per game averages of 12.1 points and 11.5 rebounds in 27.2 minutes. He tallied 20 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and two blocks against the Tamaraws for their fourth straight victory. — Reuben Terrado/JVP, GMA News
