When solar power meets social media
Eco-minded techies who recharge their devices with solar power and wouldn't mind bragging about it may want to get this gadget. The new solar charging system from German firm Changers can generate up to four watts an hour - then tell about your commitment to clean energy on Facebook and Twitter. "Make your CO2 savings visible and share it with your friends. Contribute to a cooler world," it said on its website (http://www.changers.com/en). Tech site CNET added the device hooks up to a user's PC or Mac by USB, tracks his or her CO2 savings, "and tells all your friends about it over Facebook and Twitter." CNET said the solar charging system is designed mainly for the batteries of smartphones, tablets, and other small electronics. The device, which costs $149, also tracks energy production on its website Changers.com, and gives credits that can be spent with the company's retail partners. "The amount of energy you’ve produced will be converted into Changers Credits," Changers said. — TJD, GMA News
