Windows Phone 7 Facebook app gets much-overdue update

Finally, Facebook users who have phones running Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 would be getting a long-overdue update to their Facebook app next week.

Tech site Pocket-Lint.com reported Joe Belfiore, who is behind the look and feel of Windows Phone 7, confirmed the updated app is coming and will have new features.

"Confirming the news at Nokia World in London, Belfiore told the crowd in attendance that users will be able to deep link into the app to allow shortcut tiles on the Windows Phone 7 homepage," it said.

It said this means Messages and News Feeds can be indicated on the Homepage of phones running the updated Windows Phone 7 Mango.

But Belfiore did not give further details, except that the update will be free and will work in addition to the embedded functionality the mobile operating system already offers with Facebook.

A separate article on The Next Web said the present Facebook app for Windows Phone is usable but is "a half-baked attempt."

"The app is under-featured, and it has felt that way since it first came out. Happily, at the Nokia World event, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore did confirm that the update was on the way," it said.

The Next Web also said the updated app may contain fast app switching as well. — TJD, GMA News
