Priest unfazed by reported death threat

Undeterred by a reported kill plot against him, a priest running for Pampanga governor promised Monday night to channel some P400 million in quarrying proceeds to basic services. Fr. Ed Panlilio told local doctors who hosted a dinner for him Monday night that he will continue to live a simple life even if he is elected governor of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's home province. Radio dzRH reported Tuesday morning that Panlilio drew applause when he said he plans to have the P400-million take of the provincial government from quarrying operations fund basic services like health and education. He said part of the proceeds will also likely go to micro-financing programs to help residents start their own livelihood projects. On the other hand, Panlilio said he was not deterred in his campaign even with reports of an assassination plot, code-named Oplan Gomburza, against him. "I am not leaving the faith, I am living it," he added, referring to criticisms by some sectors, including fellow priests, of his decision to enter politics. Panlilio also laughed off claims that he had impregnated several women, including one now in the United States. He likewise brushed aside claims that he will cave in to the temptations of power should he win. He said he will continue to live by the principles of public accountability and transparency. "I will not accept bribes, not even a Lacoste shirt from contractors," he said. - GMANews.TV
