PNP chief: 'It was a bomb'

(Updated 3:29 p.m.) The explosion which hit the Glorietta 2 shopping mall on Friday afternoon was not caused by a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank, rather police information on the ground showed that it came from a bomb, the Philippine National Police (PNP) leadership said. Director General Avelino Razon Jr, PNP chief, told dzBB radio that, "From our assessment, hindi ito yung initially reported na LPG. Bale ito po ay isang bomba. But beyond that wala pa po akong masasabi dahil nag-iimbestiga pa nga." (From our assessment, this was not caused by an LPG blast as initially reported. This was a bomb. But beyond that I cannot tell you anything more because the investigation is underway.) He said the information was based on the assessment of his ground commanders. Asked if the explosion was an accident, Razon said that, "Hindi po (No, sir)." "Ang masasabi ko ay hindi LPG ang nag-create nito. From the destruction that I saw, hindi po ito LPG (What I can tell you is that it was not an LPG that created this. From the destruction that I saw, this wasn't an LPG)," Razon said. Pressed for details, police Director Geary Barias, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said that, "We are not conclusively saying that it is a bomb, but we are not discounting the possibility." - GMANews.TV
