Maguindanao clash kills 2 MILF rebs, hurts CVO

MANILA, Philippines - At least two members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and a civilian volunteers’ organization (CVO) member was wounded in an encounter in Central Mindanao Thursday. Bombo Radyo reported Thursday night that the incident occurred at 9 a.m., when an MILF unit under one Commander Sanday fired on Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) and CVO members in Maguindanao. At the time, the Cafgu and CVO members were guarding civilians harvesting coconuts in Dunguan village in Datu Montawal town in Maguindanao province. The shots led to a firefight, forcing hundreds of residents in the area to flee their homes. The slain MILF members and the wounded CVO were not immediately identified. It was not until members of the government-MILF ceasefire panel arrived at 2 p.m. that the firefight stopped.
